Evil is all around us. More-so than we can imagine. People talk about evil but WHAT is evil? Is it a force? Is it a person or being? Is it a mental illness? Is it in the water or the air? Is it contagious? The scripture reading in Ephesians 6 clearly defines evil. Jesus unmasks the source of evil.
You may have watched the TV show Seconds from Disaster, or Mayday, or Airplane Crash Investigation. These programs re-counts how disasters unfolded. If you have ever watched Air Crash Investigations, you learn the number one rule ingrained in every pilot is to keep flying the aircraft.
The reason for communion centers on one word, REMEMBRANCE. Remember what I did for YOU! Nothing illustrates this better than today’s scripture reading. Our cast of characters are Jesus, a pharisee named Simon, and an unnamed woman. The reason for this encounter is a dinner. Simon invited Jesus to supper. Sound familiar.
Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”
What better way to begin the New Year than by reminding us that as Christians we are not under the curse of death. We have the Gift of Eternal Life through Grace! Eph 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
The beginning of the new year seems like a good time to pause, “pull back the veil” and ask, “Where is this all going? What is the end goal for all of us, and—for that matter—for the world in its entirety?”
