The mythical average citizen probably believes that the universe is under the perpetual superintendence of uncontrollable forces. And that the hallucinating social changes currently occurring – and of which he is sometimes the victim – are akin to a force of nature.
As an autistic person, I struggle to make connections. I did not communicate much as a young child and only barely as an adolescent. Even now, my thoughts exist independent of language.
In the churches the pastors preached devotion to flag and county and invoked the God of Battles, beseeching His aid in our good cause in outpouring of fervid eloquence which moved every listener. It was indeed a glad and gracious time, and the half-dozen rash spirits that ventured to disapprove of the war and cast a doubt upon its righteousness straightway got such a stern and angry warning that for their personal safety’s sake they quickly shrank out of sight and offended no more in that way.
He’s been my companion for 8 or 9 years. For the last 18 months, I figured he had about another week or so. But he just keeps coming back. He’s got a lot of guts and a strong will to live although his life is closing in quickly now and mostly he sleeps and rests.
This is about a modern man, one of us, he was not a scrooge, he was a kind, decent, mostly good man, generous to his family, upright in his dealings with others. But he did not believe in all that incarnation stuff that the Churches proclaim at Christmas time.

The crux of the book deals with several contemporary Christian doctrines that are foreign to the “historical” church.
The world has been blessed with many great and good men, but it has never known one quite so great or quite so good as Jesus. All other greatness has been marred by littleness. All other wisdom has been weakened by folly.
